A free workshop on seed production will be offered Oct. 15 at Prairie Road Organic Farm in Fullerton.
The workshop features Jared Zystro, Organic Seed Alliance education and outreach specialist and is hosted by David, Ginger, Dan and Theresa Podoll, owners of Prairie Road Organic Farm, OSA and the Family Farmers Seed Cooperative.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the class runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Participants will learn to produce seed and develop and adapt seed varieties for organic farm conditions. Topics include basic seed growing, seed production, harvesting and cleaning, choosing appropriate seed crops, maintaining the genetic integrity of varieties, conducting variety trials and breeding techniques.
Information is geared toward seasoned seed savers as well as beginners. The day will include a tour of seed cleaning and conditioning equipment and outdoor classroom experience.
